Biosafety Program

The Biosafety Program is designed to minimize the risks of lab-acquired illness, to ensure proper containment for activities utilizing biohazardous materials, and to maintain compliance with regulations pertaining to recombinant DNA and biohazardous materials.

Annual Inspections are done of labs that perform biological research.
Biosafety Training Opportunities
Those who work with human blood products, such as in a clinical setting, or who are reasonably anticipated to come into contact with human blood or other potentially infectious materials during the performance of their primary duties, should attend Bloodborne Pathogens training to satisfy the OSHA training requirement.There is an initial training session, with required annual refresher courses offered. This training course is offered from September through May, once a month.
Those who work with known infectious agents or in research laboratories are required to take the Biosafety Training course, offered once a month. This course satisfies the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens training requirement as well as the Biosafety requirement. There is an initial training session, with required annual refresher courses offered once a month. These courses are offered year-round.
