Purchasing Equipment and Software

Departments supported by Business Technology Services (BTS) should contact us through the BTS Help Desk for all computer-related purchases. We will locate the best vendor and tell you how to purchase what you need. Every PC must meet our standards so it can be quickly and easily imaged, deployed and serviced thoughout its life.

This rule also applies to software purchases. If we have the software on hand, you just need to buy a license, which will significantly reduce the cost.

NOTE: BTS is required to maintain a record of all licensed software used by the departments we support.

Please notify us when you purchase any software.
For other hardware peripherals, BTS should assess whether or not the peripherals will be compatible with your machine.
We also can recommend the least expensive place to purchase the items. Below we outline the steps to purchase these items.

Computer Workstations (Desktop and Laptop)

Business and Finance only buys Dell computers.

You can purchase authorized Dell machines directly by going to the Dell Premier website and creating a user profile.
You then will have access to the custom ASU page where you should:

Pull down the Standard Configurations tab at the top of the screen.
Choose the BTS link from the bottom of the menu to see a list of our recommended, pre-approved machines.
Pick the computers you need, add them to your online shopping cart and proceed to checkout.

Other Computer Equipment

Contact BTS directly to obtain a quote and/or a vendor for all other computer equipment and peripherals—such as printers, keyboards and mice.
We will make sure the device is compatible with your system and direct you to the most cost-efficient vendor.

Software

The software most departments will need comes pre-installed on the PCs. If you need other software, your department must have a license for each piece of software. Before purchasing, please check with us to make sure your department doesn’t already have a license you can use.

If you do need to purchase software, we will direct you to the best vendor, which is usually the ASU Computer Store.
You may only need to buy a license if we have the media on hand so please contact us before making a purchase.

NOTE: It is important to contact us when any newly purchased hardware or software arrives.
One of our staff members will be able to properly install the hardware or software for you.
