ASU Compliance Officer Program

Introduction

Arizona State University’s, Environmental Health & Safety Management Policy (EH&SMP) calls for the University to be a model of quality in environmental health and safety. A critical linkage in the development of this level of quality is the Compliance Officer Program. Compliance Officers (CO) are the principal liaison between the departments, colleges, and schools with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S). College or Department COs, by virtue of their special training and relationship to the EH&S, serves as the major source of coordination for those activities which support the EH&SMP and the activities of the Policy and Operations Committees.

What is a compliance officer?

COs have delegated authority from the Provost, Dean, Chair or Director for managing environmental health and safety activities in the Campus/Institute or department, including authority to establish processes, investigate complaints and incidents, and audit performance. The CO has the responsibility to report questionable activities and unresolved compliance issues to the delegating authority as well as the Director of EH&S. In addition to COs Senior Compliance Officers have additional duties and work closely with EH&S directors and staff to study and facilitate EH&S compliance activities at ASU.

COs play a vital role in the safety network supporting campus operations. COs are nominated by their departments to serve. If you have been nominated by your department, college or school to be a CO please contact EH&S at 480.965.1823 and review the following information.
