Environmental Health & Safety
WELCOME TO ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
BACKGROUND
Environmental (EH&S) previously referred to as Risk Management has historically been involved in addressing loss prevention, laboratory safety, environmental issues and EH&S related training. EH&S is part of University Administration and most staff are located in the University Center Buildings near the Tempe Campus. EH&S provides services to all ASU campus locations, including the Downtown Phoenix campus, which was added in 2006, and the Macrotechnology Works located in ASU Research Park. In addition, EH&S anticipates supporting SkySong, the Scottsdale Campus.

MISSION
To support Arizona State University by providing programs and services that promote safe and healthy environments for education, research, and community outreach. EH&S increases awareness of local and national regulations and adopted standards, assists and provides direction for departments, organizations, and vendors in meeting their responsibilities to protect the University’s assets, interests, population.
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
The ASU EH&S Department provides 24 hour on-call response to support the ASU Police Department in resolving emergency situations involving hazardous materials or life-safety issues. EH&S facilitates the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the ASU community to comply with regulatory mandates, including those of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), the International Fire Code (IFC), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and related regulations implemented by the state of Arizona, Maricopa County, and the various municipalities where ASU operates facilities. While it is the responsibility of each department chair, dean, or director to implement and enforce adherence to these policies and procedures, EH&S monitors the university's adherence to the requirements and reports the status of programs and implementation issues to ASU senior management as identified in the EH&S Management Policy.
