Asbestos AwarenessEmployees who may contact or disrupt building materials suspected of containing asbestos and employees whose duties require entry to the ASU tunnel system.

Biosafety
Employees who perform any laboratory operations within academic, clinical, or research laboratories involving infectious agents or potentially infectious material including human blood, tissues, and cell lines. This course satisfies the Bloodborne Pathogens training requirement as well as the Biosafety requirement.

Bloodborne Pathogens
Employees who may be reasonably anticipated to come into contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials during the performance of their primary duties. Those who work with known infectious agents should NOT take this course; they should take Biosafety Training (see above).

Coaching the SUV Driver, Defensive Driver or Off-Road Driving
Individuals who operate high-occupancy vehicles on ASU business are required to attend any one of the three driver training courses.
Prior to operating a high-occupancy vehicle
Confined Space
Individuals who may enter and conduct operations in confined spaces such as sewers, storage tanks and utility tunnels.
Prior to confined space operations and when changes in assignment, equipment, or procedures occur
Defensive DrivingEmployees who may need to drive a State owned vehicle.This course is required for all ASU employees that may operate a motor vehicle on ASU business.
Driving on the MallUniversity required course for anyone who drives an ASU vehicle or cart on campus property.
Prior to driving an ASU vehicle on campus property
Electrical SafetyIndividuals who provide electrical distribution, installation of electrical distribution and utilize electrical equipment.
Initially upon hire and when changes in assignment, equipment or procedures occur.
Fire and Safety Prevention
Required for all employees that work in areas where portable fire extinguishers are available for emergency use and are anticipated to fight an incipient fire.

Hazard Communication
Employees who may be occupationally exposed to hazardous substances.
Initially upon hire and whenever a new physical or health hazard is introduced into their work area
Hazardous Waste Management
Employees who generate any chemical/biological/radiological waste from any operations.
Initially upon hire, prior to working in a laboratory environment, and before preparing hazwaste for pick-up
Hazardous Materials in Transportation - Certification
Employees preparing hazardous materials or dangerous goods for shipment from any inbound location, foreign or domestic, or outbound from any ASU campus or facility.
Initially, then every two years for DOT and every three years for IATA. EH&S will coordinate training as needed.
Laboratory Safety
Laboratory employees who perform any laboratory operations within academic, clinical, or research laboratories who may receive or be exposed to hazardous chemicals while performing their duties.
Initially upon hire and a refresher annually thereafter
Laser Safety
Individuals working at or visiting ASU who procure or use Class IIIb or IV lasers.
Prior to working in an environment with specified lasers
Lock-out / Tag-out
Employees who perform electrical shut-down procedures.
Prior to performing electrical shut-down and required when changes in assignment, equipment, or procedures occur
Machine GuardingEmployees who operate powered construction machinery as part of their job.
Prior to operating Machinery and required when changes in assignment, equipment, or procedures occur
Personnel Training & Spill Prevention Procedures - SPCC
Fuel handling personnel to prevent oil discharges during fueling procedures.
Annually for fuel handlers and quarterly briefings are conducted for selected committee members
Powered Industrial Trucks Safety
Employees who operate powered industrial trucks.
Initially upon hire, then once every three years.
Radiation Safety Training
Employees who want to procure, or need access to analytical x-ray equipment, accelerators, and other ionizing radiation producing equipment.
Prior to working with ionizing radiation producing equipment
Radioactive Material Training
Employees working at or visiting ASU that procure, use, or dispose of radioactive materials.
Prior to working with radioactive materials then a refresher annually thereafter
Receiving Hazardous Materials/Dangerous Goods for Non-Lab PersonnelNon-Lab employees who may handle and/or have contact with hazardous materials or dangerous goods (HM/DG) that are being received in their department.Initially within 90 days of hire, then once every three years
Respiratory TrainingEmployees that may be required to enter environments where airborne contaminants may be present, possibly exposing them to respiratory hazards during routine operations or in unique situations during the course of duty.

Safety & Security for International TravelersEmployees who travel internationally on university business.Prior to international travel

Off-Road Driving – A Coaching ProgramEmployees who operate vehicles in off-road conditions on ASU business.

New or Established Researcher Orientation
This orientation will help principal investigators, lab managers, and academic professionals establish research operations in a more expedient manner. The orientation assists new researchers with laboratory setup, waste management, and the development of safety procedures. New and established researchers receive an overview of the various types of regulations and university policies affecting research projects especially those conducted in laboratories utilizing potentially hazardous materials.
