Non-Profit Use & Guidelines

Guidlines for ASU's Permit Indicia and Non-Profit Status

An organization must have a permit registered with the US Postal Service under the special nonprofit qualifications to do any mailings at a nonprofit rate. ASU Mail Services finances and maintains the postage dollars in our USPS permit account to process ASU's qualified departmental mail. ASU's nonprofit status is directly tied to the permit held by ASU University Mail Services.

As the official mail representative for Arizona State University, we are solely responsible for the proper use of the permit; to protect ASU's nonprofit status established in association with and tied directly to our permit; and to legally protect the university's interests as it relates to meeting USPS Federal guidelines and requirements.

Printing ASU's permit on a mail piece for mailing purposes requires the mailing to be processed through ASU Mail Services. Individual ASU departments or organizations are required to have and maintain their own USPS nonprofit permit and must qualify for their own nonprofit status and permit completely separate from ASU's eligibility if they use an outside vendor to authorize any nonprofit mailing.

ASU's permit and/or ASU's nonprofit status associated with our permit CANNOT be used by an outside vendor to process a USPS mailing. ASU's nonprofit status cannot be used by a department to acquire a separate permit. See ASU Mail Policy PUR 704.
